BURNING BRUSH WORKSHOPS ARE BACK!

After a two year sabbatical, the Burning Brush art workshops have returned with three new
hands-on classes to choose from. Each class will run for two hours on three days, June 30,
July 1-2. There will be a sign up sheet at the Burning Brush workshop.

PLASTER CASTING (Andy Myers)
This class involves making a plaster cast of your hand. Come back the next day after the plaster has
set and decorate or paint it. Class size: 25. Materials fee: $5.

Andy Myers received his BFA in Sculpture at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma.
There he refined his craft as a sculptor, learning the fundamentals of clay, wood, stone, and metal.
Recently he received his MA and MFA at the University of Dallas where he has narrowed his focus
to working with found wood. andymyersart.com

GLASS MOSAICS (David and Judy Mason)
In this class you will be making a 5” x 7” stained glass mosaic by creating a colored glass design and
applying it to clear glass. It is heated and then grouted. Class size: 30. Materials fee: $5.

David Mason received BFA and MA degrees in jewelry and metalwork from Northern Illinois
University. He has been creating jewelry since 1965 and working in glass and teaching workshops
since the 1970s. Judy Mason has an MFA in ceramics from NIU and has taught art classes since
1968. She was art teacher and department head at Mt. Vernon, IL High School from 1974-2007. She
also has an MA in Ancient and Byzantine art history.

SPINNING WOOL WITH A DROP SPINDLE (Deb Strahan)
Spin away stress while creating beautiful hand spun yarn to enhance your fiber arts, whether
you knit, crochet, or weave. The wooden drop spindle and wool fiber are yours to keep after the
workshop so you can continue learning. Class size: 10. Materials fee: $5.

ART FOR THE JOURNEY: CREATING AND MAINTAINING AN ART GROUP
(Deb Strahan)
Creative expression can be healing and a springboard for personal growth. Expression in a safe,
nurturing group motivates us to keep creating, growing, and to draw closer to others. This workshop
is for all those who love to write, play with art materials and crafts, but fear they are not “artists.”
There will be many practical suggestions for tapping into your own creativity, gathering a group of
other creative people, prompts for exploring as a group, and meeting the needs that arise as you
journey together. Class size: Open.

Deb Strahan has many years’ experience leading art groups at hospitals, hospices, homeless
shelters, and with senior citizens.

ART PILGRIMAGE 2010
Be sure to take some time to experience our Burning Brush art pilgrimage. The art will be marked
with colorful banners. This year’s theme is based on Real & False Selves.

“The only true joy on earth is to escape from the prison of our own false self, and enter by love into
union with the Life Who dwells and sings within the essence of every creature and in the core of our
own souls.” Thomas Merton
