SONGS OF EXILE: OUR CALLING AS A BLUES PEOPLE (Anthony Smith, 5 sessions) The Bible in a minor key laments this troubled world, like the Blues. Prophets and psalmists call us to raise our heads for help that comes from the Lord, like the old negro spirituals. To mourn everyday injustice while remaining anchored in faith, hope, and love is to be a blues people. This seminar explores through the blues what it means to serve Christ in an often lamentable world. CONSUMER ZOMBIFICATION (AND ITS CURE) (Jonathan Case, 3 sessions) Like armies of undead, we Americans blindly consume whatever is put before us, oblivious to advertising, commercial fads, status and other marketing pressures as a fish is to water. This seminar aims to stop us to think about the world in which we live, move and have our being, and ask questions about those ways of living, moving and being that are, literally, being sold to us. PERSONAL REFLECTIONS ON BALKANIZATION (Miroslav Volf, 1 session) Croatian theologian Miroslav Volf grew up in a country that no longer exists - Yugoslavia, and personally experienced many of the divisions and sufferings of these fragmenting peoples who, like him, have seen their story rewritten by history. In this single-session, Dr. Volf reflects on his own story, his personal experience with violence and oppression, sharing how his background shapes his theological concerns, and how we might remember rightly wrongs done to us. KEYS TO EMOTIONAL HEALING & FREEDOM (Christine Sneeringer, with Ashley Edwards, 3 sessions) This series will explore the the many ways we became emotionally devastated through broken homes, rejection and abandonment, sexual abuse and promiscuity, and point us to God-honoring strategies for achieving emotional healing and wholeness.
