UNDERGROUND AND URBAN ALTERNATIVE SUBCULTURES TENT LIVING WATER FROM AN ANCIENT WELL (Wed.-Fri., 10 a.m. Brad Culver) Looking to the past for the present we can find a wealth of riches in the theology, practice and models of the ancient followers of Jesus. We will examine such concepts as theosis, imagio dei, Christus victor, the practices of lectio divinia, pilgrimage, anam cara and the faith communities of the desert fathers, the early monastics and the Celtic church and their application to the present geourney of Christ's body and its mission in a post modern world. 24/7 BOILER ROOMS: WHOLE-ISTIC MISSIONAL COMMUNITIES (Wed.-Fri., 11 a.m. Peter Wohler: Source BR, Mpls) HOme and belonging for lambs and prodigals are keys to keep any community healthy. It takes a WHOLE village to create belonging for the marginalized, skeptical and post-post-modern culture. A wholistic missionalogy that values justice/mercy, community, relationships and being relevant to culture without abandoning evangelism, or the disciplines of prayer and discipleship. Source BR includes Homeless Ministry, Fallout Urban Art Center & Art CO-OP, and Community / Discipleship Homes and has equipped hundreds since '95. SHAPING OF THINGS TO COME: ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION (Wed.-Fri., 12 p.m. Brad Culver / Peter Wohler: SOurce BR, Mpls) The title is inspired by the book written by M. Frost and A. Hirsch. Bring your lunch and join us in exploring what is happening and what will be happening. After some beginning thoughts, there will be open discussion of the first two seminar topics including incarnational, creating, belonging, missional-micro communities, and simple church. SURVIVING FRONT LINES (Wed.-Fri., 1 p.m. Glen CLark) Glen Clark, after leaving Nashville and CCM in the early nineties for greener pastures of the streets, founded Jesus Village and Frontline MIssionary. Surviving frontline ministries that the church and society do not understand. How and why we go to the streets, hardcore bikers, drug addicts, Rainbows, Wicca, witches, Native Americans, etc. The poorest, darkest, ugliest and dirtiest, when everybody says you're crazy. Surviving twenty ears of full-time frontline ministries while raising eight children on the road. NONVIOLENCE & DIRECT ACTION (Wed.-Fri., 2 p.m. Bruce Wright: Refuge, FL) Peacemaking, Nonviolence, Civil Disobedience, and Direct Action from the perspective of the POOR. The process of protest as it relates to poor people's movements, planning actions, nonviolence, civil disobedience and direct action. We will discuss consensus, tactics, and philosophy from a historical and Biblical perspective. UNDERGROUND CHURCH UNITY (Wed.-Fri., 3 p.m. Loyal Thurman YFC) Even though the subcultural community is very different from the mainstream community, unity is still something it struggles with. This seminar will expose the problems with independence and the D.I.Y. (do it yourself) mindset within the body of Christ. This seminar will use scripture to show the need for unity and make a case that unity is one of the key components to strengthening the Church Universal. GLOBAL YOUTH CULTURE (Wed. 4 p.m. Gary & Ineta Lansdowne) Cross-cultural principles learned from ministering to youth culture in Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia. STORYTELLING (Wed. 5 p.m. Chad Mager) Bards, court jesters, and minstrels all understand the power of a good story. LIFE AS MINISTRY: SURRENDER FOR SURVIVAL (Fri. 4 p.m. Daniele Clark) Growing up on the road in full-time ministry and choosing to put aside ambition to pour life into broken lives on the frontlines. We'll look at purpose and a call to be true in the midst of a false society. YOUTH CULTURE LANGUAGE (Fri. 5 p.m. Al Craig) The rock between me and a hard place, reaching out in the cultural language of youth, how to bridge the cultural barriers. Al has just finished a book and will share stories and insights from his 23 years working with youth on the streets of Hamilton, Ontario. |
