Voting has ended for the 2012 New Band Showcase

Vanessa Mardueño’s /Mardwhenyo/, musical roots lie in the East Los Angeles Reggae/Ska scene. For years, she played local cafes, small clubs, and bars as a stand out singer/songwriter known for her unique guitar style and jazzy vocals, opening for bands such as Ozomatli and Quinto Sol. However, in 2004, she became a Christian. Naturally, her musical focus became Christ-centered and she began using her gifts leading worship for churches and international mission trips. However, her new focus did not diminish the drive she had for creating her own variety of original music. In 2009, Vanessa met her future ministry partner, bass player, and husband, Stephen Beyer. Currently they are recording Vanessa's debut full length album titled "Lap Seven" with award winning producer Mark Mohr of Christafari and founder of Its anticipated release date is May 2012. Also, her song “Hidden”, will be featured in the Skipstone Pictures film “Hardflip” due to be released nationwide June 1st 2012.

LAP SEVEN (Album Title)
The significance behind the name Lap Seven is found in the book of Joshua. In it, God instructs Joshua to march the people around the city of Jericho one time, in silence, for six days straight. Upon the seventh day, He instructs them to march around the city seven times. At the completion of the seventh lap, the priests were to blow their horns and the people were to shout, causing the walls to come crumbling down and allowing God’s chosen people to take over their promised land, their destiny. The calling on Vanessa's music is to bring to God’s children the same anointing as that of the priest’s horns and shouts on that seventh day. An anointing that breaks down the walls between God’s people and their destiny.

Vanessa Mardueño is known for having a unique voice. She is backed musically by a groovy, roots reggae, soulful sound that is refreshingly different from the current trend in Gospel Music. Mark Mohr of Christafari and producer of their upcoming album describes their sound as “No Doubt meets Portishead in Reggae”; a sound that is pleasing not only to the youth of this generation but to those who are young at heart as well.

Her music is available on iTunes and
